On a restricted, 3-gun competition rifle, I might choose the Miculek brake because I don’t care if it’s louder as I’ll always be on the range with proper ear protection. On a non-restricted rifle that I might have the remote possibility of hunting with, I might go for the Colonel Mustard one just because the baffles aren’t quite so big and it didn’t feel as loud. They both use a 3 baffle design with a mostly closed bottom, some upward pressure to drive the muzzle down a bit, and they’re both incredibly inexpensive. So which would I buy again? They’re both more similar than they are different. 11 models Area 419 Sidewinder Magnum Self. Widened gills on Miculek brake (left) vs compensating holes on CM (right) Brake bottom. Note that while the CM compensator looks longer, once you install it on an AR-15, it’s basically the same installed length because it mounts that much further onto the barrel. I prefer the crush washer style install on this brake to the jam nut on the Miculek brake. The top of the brake has 2 drilled holes to drive the barrel down a bit. Uses a standard crush washer (included) to install and screws in much more deeply on the barrel. Doesn’t screw in as deeply onto the barrel, so maybe it’s slightly less secure? The top of the brake has widened gills to redirect some gas up to drive the barrel down a bit. I couldn’t really tell which was more effective, so they must be very close.Ĭolonel Mustard 3 port comp: $40 from Colonel Mustard Uses a jam nut/lock nut instead of a crush washer, which ends up looking a bit off but is easy to install. Slightly lighter weight than the other comp, louder, darker finish. Miculek Compensator: $89 from Select Shooting Supplies **edit: the exchange rate is killing us and now the Miculek brake is a lot more expensive. Primarily, these were for 3 gun competition in Canada, where a comp helps a bit for follow up shots. These are both incredibly low priced in the Canadian market. The finish on both brakes was less than perfect but for the price point, I can’t really complain. I’ve got a comparison with 2 brakes: the Jerry Miculek 3 port brake as well as another 3 port brake from Colonel Mustard’s (I picked up a similar 308 brake for my Savage 10TR from them) These are both inexpensive muzzle brakes and they both make a pretty big difference in recoil, which can help in competition but makes things really loud.

That’s something super special to give to someone, so I am eternally happy that I could give that to you. I know that you are going to cherish these images forever. This was just a dang good session, and I’m so thankful to you two for letting me capture you in this intimate way. Even after so many years together, their love is still full of fire and is so strong, so I LOVE that this session helped them to reignite the flame and intimacy that they feel for one another AND it helped reignite a spark in me to push my work and creativity for every single session. These two truly inspire me to create that feeling in all of my sessions, no matter where the setting may be. These sessions are empowering and intimate opportunities that build confidence in one’s body, mind, and soul. And as such, a boudoir photo shoot captures moments while dressing or undressing in a women’s private room. When I look at these images I see such a true and genuine connection that feels so raw and real. The French word boudoir refers to a woman’s private dressing room or changing room. I love that the limitations that come with shooting in a home push me to get more creative, to focus more on the emotion and the idea behind the shoot, and to create something I never have before. I truly felt so inspired and creative after this shoot. I was so nervous about not having good outfits, about not having experience and not really feeling like my body is all that special and being awkward from overthinking during the shoot, adding that a little bubbly before getting started put her at ease. We were able to break through a barrier that is sometimes hard to do with a couple outside of their home. I can’t put into words how much fun our couples boudoir session was. I am SO glad that Jackie and Dave trusted me enough to capture them in such an intimate and passionate way. A boudoir session can reignite this flame, allowing couples to rediscover each other in a new light. If I had to come up with one word to describe this session (aside from just straight up steamy ) I would definitely say “reigniting.” We planned this couples boudoir session in Jackie and Dave’s stunning, naturally lit home here in New Jersey just a few days before they moved out of the state! Jackie, who is also a photographer, knew just how amazing the light in their home was and appreciated how perfectly they had curated their bedroom decor during their time living there, so she knew it HAD to be documented. Over time, couples may find themselves caught up in the routine of daily life, forgetting the passion that once burned brightly. In a solo boudoir session, the focus can be what youre wearing, or in some cases, not. Couples boudoir sessions provide a safe space for partners to be vulnerable together, strengthening their bond. Couple boudoir sessions are much different than solo boudoir sessions. Or, fellas you can coordinate your pocket square. Our studio is located in Lansing, MI, but we love to travel and are available for sessions both locally and worldwide. The Power of VulnerabilityĪllowing another person to see us in our most vulnerable state, both emotionally and physically, is a testament to trust. Backup your Mac first!īefore you start the process of downgrading your Mac, you should back up your Mac. The options are similar to those above so the following steps should also enable you to restore Mojave – or even High Sierra or earlier on your (Intel-powered) Mac if you want to. Maybe it’s Catalina you want to downgrade. However, our advice remains that it is a good time to update to Ventura if you haven’t yet. For example, a Wi-Fi bug related to AirDrop. Since Apple introduced Ventura there have been a few problems and issues. Intel Macs miss out on a number of features including Live Captions, Dictation emoji support, and Reference Mode with Sidecar.Īnother problem (which is shared with Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, and High Sierra), is that some times when Apple updates the operating system with new features users encounter problems and vulnerabilities with the new software. Read: If you don’t have an M1 Mac you won’t get these Ventura features. If you have an Intel Mac it is likely that you will be missing out on some of Ventura’s best features. However, it is possible that your Mac can’t take advantage of all the new features in Ventura. This can make it easier to help communicate over a call in Ventura.Ventura is a great update to the Mac operating system with some useful features and some iOS inspired changes (read: Best features of Ventura, Ventura: Update now or wait and macOS Ventura vs Monterey). There's also typing out live captions for a FaceTime call, or a third-party conferencing app on the Mac. macOS Ventura will listen to this, and store it in its dictionary for future use. Voice Control also sees improvements in teaching it new words by spelling them out loud. This will allow a user to use multiple controllers as one, making it easier to access the buttons for certain games. AccessibilityĪlongside the previously announced features of door detection and live captions in a FaceTime call, Ventura brings some new accessibility features, such as 'buddy controller'. There's also new widgets for both that you can add to the sidebar in macOS. The same app has moved over to Ventura and iPadOS 16, with the same weather animations and useful information that can now be viewed on your Mac.Īlongside this, you can ask Siri to set alarms for the Clocks app, or set one yourself. However, the redesigned Weather app is the focus here, first arriving in iOS 15. Weather and Clock comes to macOSĪpps that have been on iOS since the start, are arriving on macOS Ventura. Photos see some improvements, with the ability to use Apple Music in Photo Memories, where you can add a track into one of these albums instead. You can drag and drop files in a much easier way here too, by going to this sidebar and the app will appear in the center, making it easier for you to drag it into a specific place in the app. Stage Manager is an evolution of Continuity and multitasking that's also on iPadOS 16, which allows you to sort apps into groups, which can be accessed on the left of the desktop. System Preferences finally sees a redesign for the first time on the Mac, renamed Settings and making it easier to find those settings when you need to. Those familiar with TAG Heuer nomenclature will know that Calibre 16 translates to the ETA 7750 or its Sellita equivalent. I do think the combination of blue dial and bracelet means this watch is a bit of an attention-seeker, so if you’re hoping to slip under the radar, perhaps the black is a better option. There’s no microadjustment, which is a bit of a let-down, but that does mean the clasp is quite streamlined on the wrist. I quite like this bracelet from TAG it’s utilitarian and versatile, with its mix of finishing ensuring it can go from work to weekend without too much stress. There’s a lot of polish at play too, which adds some flash on the wrist, especially when you factor in the bracelet … The strapĪt the moment, the blue-dialled option is only offered on the h-link bracelet, whereas the black comes on leather. It sits tall, but not taller than you’d expect from any watch with this movement. The long lugs are still very much in evidence though, which combined with the bezel, gives that instant modern Carrera look. And while this Cal 16 version isn’t a straight-up heritage piece, the 41mm case size does give it more of an old world feel compared to the larger 43 and 45mm incarnations. The Carrera, as you might expect from a model that celebrates its 55th anniversary this year, has seen some significant fluctuations over the decades. While the dial of this beauty receives (deservedly so) the lion’s share of the attention, the case plays its own significant role too. Even the text/logo/date combo at three is nicely balanced. But while that might be my dream scenario, the fact is that the dial, as is, looks pretty awesome. And while I think the red works really well on the black-dialled option, for me this watch is all about the blue, white and orange - I’d happily see that super ’70s shade take over from the red, especially with that creamy beige lume at play too. All the key chronograph features - central chrono hands, elapsed minutes and hours, as well as the outer flange minute track - are highlighted in red, while there’s vivid orange alternating highlights on the running seconds register. I particularly like the break afforded by the white inner flange, which is something you don’t see too often on the Carrera. The contrasting white is great, and adds an instant retro flavour. The matt mid-blue matches perfectly with the fixed ceramic tachy bezel (love the choice to use ceramic BTW), and is freshened up even more thanks to the white, red and orange at play. I made that decision in the thick of the fair, but you know what, after a few months reflection, I think it holds up. I think this particular model excels at this job, which is why I chose it as one of my 10 favourite Baselworld 2018 releases. And that job is telling the time and looking good. But while all that stuff is cool and sometimes really matters, at the end of the day it’s a watch on your wrist with a job to do. You can very quickly get caught up in the hullabaloo of new this, in-house that, and proprietary the other. If you spend more than a few minutes in the sometimes crazy world of watches, it’s easy to lose perspective. I/trending 13226 A dash of sporty fun with the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph Time+TideĮditor’s note: Some watches you can’t get out of your head, and the fun and friendly TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph from 2018 is one such watch. The original paper by Ellingham explicitly to the reduction of both oxygen and sulfur by metallurgical processes, and anticipated the use of such diagrams for other compounds, including chlorides, carbides, and sulfates. The concept of plotting the free energies of reaction of various elements with a given gas-phase reactant may be extended beyond oxidation reactions. In pyrometallurgy, aluminium is used as a reducing agent in the alumino-thermic process or thermite process to extract chromium and manganese by reduction of their oxides.Įxtensions to other gas-phase reactions Since the Gibbs free energy change is negative, aluminium can reduce chromium oxide. So aluminium oxide is more stable than chromium oxide (at least at normal temperatures, and in fact all the way up to the decomposition temperatures of the oxides). The slope of the plots d Δ G / d T = − Δ S For the oxidation of each metal, the dominant contribution to the entropy change (Δ S) is the removal of 1⁄ 2 mol OĢ, so that ΔS is negative and roughly equal for all metals. In the temperature ranges commonly used, the metal and the oxide are in a condensed state (solid or liquid), and oxygen is a gas with a much larger molar entropy. the line for the oxidation of chromium shows Δ G for the reaction 4⁄ 3 Cr(s) + Oģ(s), which is 2⁄ 3 of the molar Gibbs energy of formation Δ G f°( Cr The diagram shown refers to 1 mole OĢ, so that e.g. For comparison of different reactions, all values of Δ G refer to the reaction of the same quantity of oxygen, chosen as one mole O ( 1⁄ 2 mol OĢ by others. The Ellingham diagram plots the Gibbs free energy change (Δ G) for each oxidation reaction as a function of temperature. Thermodynamics Ellingham diagram for several metals giving the free energy of formation of metal oxides and the corresponding oxygen partial pressure at equilibrium.Įllingham diagrams are a particular graphical form of the principle that the thermodynamic feasibility of a reaction depends on the sign of Δ G, the Gibbs free energy change, which is equal to Δ H − TΔ S, where Δ H is the enthalpy change and Δ S is the entropy change. Thus, processes that are predicted to be favourable by the Ellingham diagram can still be slow. The analysis is thermodynamic in nature and ignores reaction kinetics. The diagrams are useful in predicting the conditions under which an ore will be reduced to its metal. In metallurgy, the Ellingham diagram is used to predict the equilibrium temperature between a metal, its oxide, and oxygen - and by extension, reactions of a metal with sulfur, nitrogen, and other non-metals. These diagrams were first constructed by Harold Ellingham in 1944. This analysis is usually used to evaluate the ease of reduction of metal oxides and sulfides.
